How to Play the G chord? There are several ways which all are correct. But it is your preference on what feels easiest and most comfortable for you. This is the finger position I use. But you could also use fingers: 1 on 5th string. Finger 2 on on 6th string. Then your 3rd finger on the first string.

  • Place your 2nd finger on the 5th string. At the 2nd fret. Which is on the A string.
  • Third finger is at the 6th string, on the third fret. This string is the E string.
  • Then Place your pinkie on the 3rd fret of the High E string. Which is string 1.
  • You can strum all the strings when playing the G Major chord.

Next chord in the diagram is the C chord. Look how you place your fingers for the C Major chord.

  • Your 1st finger is at the first fret of the 2nd string. The B string.
  • Then your 2nd finger is at the second fret, on the D string. The 4th string.
  • Stretch your pinkie over to the third fret of the 5th string. This is the A string.
  • When Playing the C chord. You don’t play the 6th string when strumming.

Look at how to place your fingers for the D chord.

  • Place your first finger on the G string at the 2nd fret. The 3rd string.
  • Your second finger is on the 1st string at the 2nd fret.
  • Then your third finger is on the 2nd string, at the 3rd fret.
  • You only strum the first four strings. The 4th string is the D string.

The last chord to know is the Em which is possibly the easiest chord. Since you only use two fingers. Here is how to play the Em chord. Which is spelled E minor.

  • Put your 2nd finger on the 5th string, at the 2nd fret.
  • Then your 3rd finger is on the 4th string, at the 2nd fret.
  • When strumming the Em you can play all the strings.

Playing Amazing Grace for Beginners?

Now what you need to know is the chord progression. Which is what order the chords are going to be played. The chords are in this order. G G C , G G D, D G G, C G Em, D G G.

Now that you know that you can if you are a beginner or even if your not. Just strum the chords. in that order. Or I will show you in a minute a country style of playing which is still fairly easy once you learn it.

The song is a little different than most songs that you here on the radio. Which are in 4/4 timing. This song is in 3/4 timing. So most songs that you here are 4 beats per measure. 1 2 3 4 | 1 2 3 4 |

1 2 3 4 | 1 2 3 4 |. .

But with the 3/4 timing there are three beats per measure. So it looks like this. | 1 2 3 1 2 3 |

1 2 3 | 1 2 3.

The accent is on the 1. So it is literally a waltz.

The beat is; 1 2 3 | 1 2 3 | 1 2 3 | 1 2 3. So if you can count to 3 you can play this song. Let me show you how to play it.

How Do You Pick Amazing Grace On Guitar

What you are going to do after you set your fingers on the chords. You are going to pick the lowest note. In the chord that you are playing.

The first chord in the progression is G. Place your fretting hand so that you are going to play the G chord. Then you pick the lowest note in the G chord. Which is G. The G is the third fret of the G chord. That is on the 6th string.

Don’t Get to worried about the notes and that just know what string you are going to play for each chord. When you play the G you want to first pick the 6th string. That is going to be the first beat. Then you simply strum down two times. 1 2 3 | 1 2 3 1 2 3 | 1 2 3 .

Picking the C chord

Next with the C chord you are going to position your fretting hand on the strings. Then pick the C note. That is on the 5th string. And strum down two times. Remember this song is at a slow tempo. So go slow! And have fun.

When Playing the D chord You want Pick the 4th string. Which is the D string. Then strum down two times. This is just the Rhythm and timing of the song. But you will still need the chord progression. I have a chord sheet that should help you with that. There is a button somewhere below.

When playing the Em chord then you want to Pick the Low E. Which is the E strings. and strum the Em two times.
