Play Blues Licks Like Buddy Guy

Like I was saying I have been inspired By Buddy Guy. One of the Great Blues players. This lesson will be broke down. So that you too can learn how to play these Licks and Riffs. I will also include tab for each section. I want to make it as easy for you to learn this as possible. Click the link If you need to know how to read Tablature.

The first Lick goes like this.

This looks complicated, but really its strictly off of the Blues scale. The A minor blues scale. There are two video lessons that will help you with the blues scale. Here are the links if you need to know How to move across the fretboard in 3 seconds flat. And then also knowing the Pentatonic Scale. If you have already got the scale under your belt then let me show you this first lick.

We are going to start this lick on the 8th fret. On the B string. Which the 2nd string. Pick it and hammer on to the 10th fret. So when you hammer on you pick the string. And then take your third finger, and hammer it onto the B string. At the 10th fret.

Then your going to fret the 9th fret. This time on the G string. The 3rd string. Then go back to the B string. Place your finger on the 10th fret. Play the B string, Then still on the B string fret and play the 8th fret.

Now go to the G string again. The 3rd string, fret the 9th fret. And play the G string. Then you are going to the 7th fret. On the G string. Pick it and slide to the 5th fret. And End on the 7th fret of the D string. The 4th string. See Tab Below.

Start the Riff on the 5th fret of the A string. Which is the 5th string. Pick that and slide to the 7th fret.

Then you move up a string. To the D string. Pick the 5th fret, and then the 7th fret. Move up another string. Now we are on the G string. The 3rd string. Place your finger on the 5th fret and play the G string.

Now we are going back to the D string. First fret the 7th fret. Play the D string. Then Fret the 5th fret. Play the D string again.

Now go to the A string. Place your finger on the 7th fret. Play the A string. Then Fret the 5th fret, and then the 3rd fret. Playing the A string both times. End on the 5th fret of the E string. The 6th string.

That’s the first half of the Riff. Once you get that down. Move on to the second part. Which is primarily the same but it ends differently.

SECOND PART: Goes Like this

Start the Riff on the 5th fret of the A string. Which is the 5th string. Pick that and slide to the 7th fret.

Then you move up a string. To the D string. Pick the 5th fret and then the 7th fret. Move up another string. Now we are on the G string. The 3rd string. Place your finger on the 5th fret and play the G string.

Guitar Fingerboard Breakthrough

Now we are going back to the D string. First fret the 7th fret. Play the D string. Then Fret the 5th fret and play the D string again.

Now go to the A string and place your finger on the 7th fret. Play the A string. Then Fret the 5th fret. And then the 3rd fret. Playing the A string both times. And end on the 5th fret of the A string. The 5th string. See the Tab below how these two parts are similar.

Again we are starting at the 5th fret of the A string. The 5th string in case you need to know. Pick that and then slide to the 7th fret.

Then you move up a string. To the D string. Pick the 5th fret and then the 7th fret. Move up another string. Now we are on the G string. The 3rd string. Pick Place your finger on the 5th fret and play the G string. Then fret the 7th fret. And play the G string. You want to play some vibrato at the 7th fret.

Next place your finger at the 5th fret. And play the G string again. After that go to the D string. The 4th string. Playing the 7th fret and the 5th fret. Then Play the 7th fret on the A string. Ending on the 5th fret of the 6th string. If that’s as clear as mud. Take a look at the tab to see how to play it.


The Next Riff

Then you are going to play almost the same Riff. Using your third finger At the 5th fret. On the A string. Pick the A string and slide up to the 7th fret. Then pick the D string. After fretting the 5th fret. Next fret the 7th fret with your third finger. Pick the D string again. After that go to the G string. And fret the G string at the 5th fret. Pick the G string.

Then going back to the D string. Fret the 7th fret and pick the D string. Still on the D string. Fret the 5th fret. Play the 4th string. Going to the 7th fret. On the A string. Fretting it and picking the A string. Next fret the 5th fret. On the 5th string. And end it on the 3rd fret of the A string.

Start this Lick

Start this lick on the D string at the 7th fret. You are going to want to use your 3rd finger. Because you are going to slide from 7th fret to the 9th fret. So start by fretting the 7th fret. Pick it and slide to 9th fret. Play the 7th fret on the G string. The third String. After that fret the 9th fret on the D string again. Pick the D string.

Next place your finger at the 7th fret. Again on the G string and play it. And once again place your finger to fret the 9th fret. On the D string and play it.

The second part is almost the same. But now we are starting on the 5th fret of the D string. Slide to the 7th fret. Then fret the 5th fret on the G string and then the 7th fret of the D string and again the G string at the 5th fret. End on the 7th fret of the D string. Again use the Tab to see the licks.

What’s great is you can take parts of the licks. Take them and use them any where. But if you take and learn each part. One at a time and then play it all together. Listen how it sounds. Then you can play it over and over. See how it sounds. Now for the last part.

Your going to start on the D string at the 5th fret. Slide up to the 7th fret. In essence you pick when you’ve fretted the 5th fret. Then slide to 7. After that pick the 5th fret again. Then move down to the A string. The 5th string. Play these frets 7, 6, 5 and then fret 3. Then pick the 5th fret of the A string and slide to the 7th fret. Play the 5th fret and then the 3rd fret of the 5th string and end on the 5th fret of the E string. Or Just look at the Tab below.
